Our Blessing Named Jesse

Jesse Quintin was born September 26, 2007, the much-loved fifth son of Kristan and Chad. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with AV Canal Heart Defect and Down Syndrome. Thursday, January 10th, Jesse had surgery to repair his heart defect. Friday morning he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. After 45 min. of CPR he was attached to life support. By God's healing hand his heart started to beat again and he came off life support on January 13. We created this blog to keep everyone updated.

Monday, January 28 4pm CST updates

Updated 4pm CST:
Jesse's chest x-ray did show some increase in fluid and the doctors were in concensus that Jesse needed a chest tube put in. Our understanding is that the tube is draining fluid in the lining around Jesse's lungs - the pleural lining or something - and that this would not go away on its own. Also, the doctors needed to test the fluid to see is it still is chylos or not.

So, around noon Jesse had a chest tube put in. He is doing well.

Thank you for all your prayers. Keep them coming!

10am

Jesse’s x-ray yesterday morning came back showing minimal increase in chest fluid – praise God – and he continues to breathe well (with supplemental oxygen through his nose). They ran another chest x-ray this morning that we haven’t gotten the results back for.

Believe it or not, but if the chest x-ray shows no increase in fluid, the doctors are considering sending Jesse home TOMORROW! Can you imagine? He is eating well from a bottle & breathing ok – he’d be sent home with supplemental oxygen.

So, please pray that there is no increase in fluid in his chest.

Also, Jesse's dad (Chad) and two oldest brothers (Matthew & Collin) have a cold. Pray that God will protect Jesse from getting it as they were all with Jesse over the weekend. Also, pray for clear direction in this regard as to Jesse going home.

God is so good. To Him be the glory forever & ever.

Love,
Aunt Kim

  1. I will keep Jesse in my prayers. Thank you for your updates. I have been wondering (okay worrying) about how he was doing. Give me a call whenever I can help or you're ready for a visit. I will light a candle for his health when I am home tonite. Michelle K.

  2. Dear Precious Parents,
A friend of mine sent me your blog. We too, have been blessed with a precious gift Abbey, with down syndrome. She has not had the extensive health issues as you are dealing with. We know of many families that are dealing with things like this and I just want you to know that your not alone. When we started on our Down Syndrome journey, we thought we were. BUT, the LORD has put onto our path FAITHFULLY people to strengthen us and encourage us on this road of uncertainty. Even now, three years later, everything happens just as is ought, just as HE has ordained and spoke it to be. Although not easy, we would not change one thing. Growth in our faith and life has been abundant as we trust HIM. We will be praying that you easily rest and seek HIS peace as you continue on and that you would be able to do so with abundant joy and confindence. He has already walked before you and has prepared the way. Jesse has much to teach a lost world. He has the fingerprint of God in a special and unique way. Grow him up to be mighty in the LORD and teach him to love the LORD with his whole heart, mind, soul, and strength.
He has been fearfully, and wonderfully made in HIS image. You might want to check out www.caringbridge.org for another way to communicate your journey that might be a little bit easier.
Know that some strangers are praying for you and your family.
with many blessings, Maureen Walker, iowa

  3. We are still keeping Jesse and the rest of the family in prayers.
We are praying that Jesse does get to come home tomorrow and that Matthew, Collin, and Chad will be well for your return home. The Lord is still leading the way, just follow along faithfully as you have. As the song "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" says:
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face; And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

The faithfulness of the family and God's miracles that He has performed are proof and testimony that Jesus is here. You have touched the lives of so many people that you can't even begin to imagine . To God be the glory great things He hath done.

May God continue to bless you and your family. We will continue to pray for all of you.
    Love, The Dirks Family

  4. We are still waiting to hear about the test results. But not really sure what to pray for, except that Jesse continue to hold on and slowly improve. Sorry you won't be coming home tomorrow, but it is important that Jesse be stable. Let's pray the road ahead levels off soon. Talk about an interesting coincidence (?) -- my google word verification below is "bumpi", as in bumpy roads?

  5. Chad and Kristan,

Jesse continues to be in our prayers. When we pray over AnnaSophia each night, we make sure we say a special prayer for Jesse and your family as well.

We're so happy to hear that the chest tube was inserted successfully. May that speed up his recovery and may the Lord show the doctors the way.

Kristan, tell Chad that I also have some kind of crud. I'm running a low grade fever and it feels like I have a sinus infection. So, we're going through the same worries right now. It must be the stress...

We're praying that you guys get some rest as well.

    Your friends,
    Steve and Mary Berry
