Our Blessing Named Jesse

Jesse Quintin was born September 26, 2007, the much-loved fifth son of Kristan and Chad. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with AV Canal Heart Defect and Down Syndrome. Thursday, January 10th, Jesse had surgery to repair his heart defect. Friday morning he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. After 45 min. of CPR he was attached to life support. By God's healing hand his heart started to beat again and he came off life support on January 13. We created this blog to keep everyone updated.

Wednesday, January 23rd

Nothing happened today - meaning no tubes were taken out. The chest x-ray showed some fluid build up in Jesse's chest cavity, so they had to leave the tube in. They put him back on Lasix by IV to help get rid of fluid (he had been getting it orally). He has since had a VERY wet diaper, and more drainage from the chest tube. They have weaned his oxygen a little. Tomorrow he will hopefully get 1/2 of the staples removed from the incision. He continues to drink his bottles well and smile at Mom. I don't think he has even had any Tylenol today.

Pray for Sam who is now not feeling well. Holly said she has been holding him a lot today. The boys were going to come to visit tomorrow, but that might not happen since we don't want to get Jesse sick.

Little AnnaSophia who had surgery around when Jesse did, got to go home today. We enjoyed the fellowship with her family and will continue to pray for them, and AnnaSophia's little heart that may require more surgery in the future.

Things have slowed down a lot up here, but it is hard to get away since there isn't someone watching Jesse all the time now.

Thanks for all the calls and support.

Love,
Kristan

  1. I'm sure that was difficult to have the removals postponed again. Very sorry to hear about Sam. Let us know more when you have more news about his condition. Hope Matt & Collin don't get it. Did Chad find someone else to deliver hay to? You remember Ron & Eileen Bowerman. They stopped in this morning for a short visit on their way home from Denver. Eileen has had a terrible cold and was anxious to get home and see her doctor. It was really good to see them and visit even for a short while. They promised to come back and stay longer soon. Both are retired now. Call when you have time.

  2. Kristan and Chad,

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Psalm 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

Our prayers are still with all of you guys. All of you are in our thoughts every day. Step by step, things are working as He has planned.

  3. Dear Kris & Chad and family,
Your messages are such a blessing to us. We pray for you all, especially Jesse and his doctors, many times a day, whenever we think of you. Thanks for taking the time to post new messages about Jesse's progress. It is very inspiring to read and I know many people are reading it that are not responding. Elva looks at the blog often, I know, and is keeping you all in her prayers, too.
Hope that you are able to get some rest also as you, too, need your strength. God bless you. Mike, Marsha and John

Just thought I would pop you a note. Things seem to be going as expected on your end. I hope you are getting some much needed rest and are taking care of yourself. I cannot wait until I get the call saying you are coming home. I think about you often and am never more than a phone call away. Take care.....Praying for you and the family. ♥♥ Amee

  6. Hi Kristan and Chad, I am so excited about the progress that Jesse seems to be making. He's graduated to the 9th floor, that's WONDERFUL!! I look forward to seeing you all and Jesse this weekend! It so wonderful to read the messages and prayers left by all your friends and family. I pray everyday for each of you and Jesse's continued improvement.

    Love, Susan.
