Our Blessing Named Jesse

Jesse Quintin was born September 26, 2007, the much-loved fifth son of Kristan and Chad. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with AV Canal Heart Defect and Down Syndrome. Thursday, January 10th, Jesse had surgery to repair his heart defect. Friday morning he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. After 45 min. of CPR he was attached to life support. By God's healing hand his heart started to beat again and he came off life support on January 13. We created this blog to keep everyone updated.

Prayer needed!

This morning at approximately 7:45 Jesse had an acute event. He went into cardiac arrest, his heart stopped beating. The nurse performed CPR for approximately 20 minutes and his chest was re-opened.

Jesse has been re-hooked up to the "heart-lung bypass machine" which cleans & oxygenates his blood. His chest is still open, but they put some kind of patch on it. It appears that the heart is still functioning & it is beating regularly on its own. The doctors put in a line to his lungs to measure the "pulmonary hypertension" - the pressure in his lungs.

They have not identified the cause of this "event." It was a very sudden event with no forewarning. The doctors have reviewed Jesse's records from the past day & evening and he was stable & doing very well. The nurse (Maggie) even said she was telling her student nurse that she's training that Jesse was a model patient and was doing so great. She was standing with Jesse when this happened and saw him turn blue. It took her by surprise.

Praises:
Maggie was with Jesse when it happened and was able to respond quickly.
Kristan got several hours of sleep last night.
Kristan walked in to see Jesse at the moment that this began, so she was able to be with him.
Jesse's heart is beating on its own.

Prayer requests:
That there would be no damage to the heart repairs. Particularly because they were performing CPR it is possible that some of the sutures would be damaged, or that the repair would be hurt. Pray God would protect Jesse's heart
Jesse would not become anemic.
While on the heart-lung bypass machine, they have to keep Jesse's blood thinned & use "blood products." These have many negative side-effects, such as stroke, bleeding, infection, or damage to the liver or kidneys.
The doctors want to begin weaning Jesse off this machine in the next 48-72 hours, to limit the risks involved. Pray that would be possible.

We appreciate your prayers.

Please leave comments & scripture for us on this blog. We'll keep you updated.

  2. What can I say... we are praying with you, we are praying for you. We love you all so very much - our hearts are with you. The Lord keeps giving me Isa. 41:10 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." I am beginning to think of it as "Jesse's verse". I'm sure it is no 'coincidence' that I was studying Isaiah 41 for our next Bible study. We take great comfort in knowing that God Himself is holding you all in His omnipotent, omniscient, loving hands.

  3. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Prov 3.5-6)

    There is nothing that I can say or do to make it "better" but trust in Him and know that he is with you and guiding you in all your decisions and actions. May Our Father bless you, Jesse, your extended family, and may He guide the hands and actions of the Dr. We lift our prayers up to Him. Blessings and prayers to you all.

  4. In reading God's word this afternoon I ran accross this verse in Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Ron has preached about How true Joy is not in our circumstances but in our Heavenly Father. None of us understand these circumstances and yet our Father does. We pray that you will feel His presence and His unconditional Love as you Trust and await God's plan for Jesse. We pray for it to be his will to perform another miracle in His precious life. We have lots of people praying and will continue to lift up Jesse and your entire family for the hours and days to come. Love in Christ, Julie and Craig

  5. Numbers 6:24-26
    "The Lord bless you and keep you;
    the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
    the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace."
    This is our prayer for all of you right now, that you may feel that peace that the Lord provides. We are thinking and praying for all of you every step of the way. All our love, Mike and Heather(Amen) Forster

  6. Dear Chad and Kristan, Our hearts go out to you. We have been praying often. We appreciate the Bromptons, and your blogspot, for keeping us informed. Heidi called us this morning, then Twila called again a few minutes later. The three of us stopped and prayed right then, just before 8:00 a.m. We continue to keep you in prayer and trust that the Lord in His strength, love, and compassion, will hold you up at this difficult time. "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." (Ps.50:15)

  9. Is.43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

    I know how hard this time is for you but when things seem hopeless all we can do is trust that God loves Jesse more than any human can and He will take care of him. We are praying for complete healing and for you to feel God holding and carrying you through this time. Hang on to His love and the peace that only God can give you. Love, Jan and Bill
