Our Blessing Named Jesse

Jesse Quintin was born September 26, 2007, the much-loved fifth son of Kristan and Chad. He was diagnosed shortly after birth with AV Canal Heart Defect and Down Syndrome. Thursday, January 10th, Jesse had surgery to repair his heart defect. Friday morning he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. After 45 min. of CPR he was attached to life support. By God's healing hand his heart started to beat again and he came off life support on January 13. We created this blog to keep everyone updated.

Updates: January 20th

Jesse has developed some type of infection and is running a fever. He's already on Tylenol, so it's hard to know exactly what his fever would be, but it's been between 99-101. The doctors have him on an antibiotic while they run tests to figure out what type of infection it is. Please pray for the infection to go away quickly, for the doctors to be able to diagnose & treat it accurately, and pray that God will protect Jesse's frail little body.

The chest tube is draining again with the chylothorax stuff. We'd hoped that putting Jesse on a special formula would take care of it. Apparently, that is not the case. They are now also giving him some special hormone that is supposed to help. Kristan is going tomorrow to meet with someone about possibly treating her breastmilk to make it compatible for Jesse to drink. Pray God heals Jesse of the chylothorax problem and gives Kristan & Chad & the doctors unity & wisdom in how to treat this.

Jesse's pulse oxygen rates are lower than they'd like, in the low 90s. Pray for God to miraculously heal Jesse's lungs that his oxygen levels would rise.

Overall, considering what Jesse has been through in the past 10 days, he's a walking miracle! But, he still has a very long road ahead of him. Please continue to pray for his healing and for God's glory to be apparent in his life.

One more thing, Kristan is in need of sleep and peace in the midst of watching Jesse struggle. She really appreciates all your prayers & love. God is able.

Love, Aunt Kim

p.s. I'm putting the link to Kristan's testimony in the "link" section on the bottom left side of the blog. Let us know if you're able to hear it.

  1. I just saw the wonderful pictures of Jesse and your family from yesterday. Jesse looks so good so pink and what a precious Child of God. We will pray for Jesse to be able to fight off the infection very quickly. May God give you Chad and Kristen peace and strength. We pray for you to be able to sleep and the pain in your neck to leave. I know its so good for all of you to be able to spend time together. We will continue to pray for all the requests you give us. Love, Jim and Terry

  2. I am praying for your precious son here in Memphis, Tennessee. Our WMU group prayed for him before his surgery and our church prayed for him during our Wednesday night prayer meeting. Praise God. He is faithful.

  3. Dear Chad and Kristan,

I can't know how you are feeling at this most difficult time, I have never walked in your shoes. I want you to be sure and know that many people are holding your situation up in prayer and we know that God is ABLE to sustain us in ALL of our trials. Praise be to the Living God.

    In love, Suzanne

  4. My daughter in Peetz told me about your baby and asked me to pray for him. She also told me about this blog. What a beautiful family and what a precious baby! St. Augustine's parishioners here in New York have added Jesse and your family and friends in Colorado to our prayer chain. We will keep your in our prayers

  5. Dear Kristan and Chad,
Up and then down and then up again - what a roller coaster ride Jesse's recovery continues to be. Knowing how difficult it is for
those of us who love you, I can only imagine what you must be going through. But while I cannot know that for sure, I do know for certain sure that God is always faithful and we can trust Him wholly. We continue steadfast and fervently in prayer for each of you. We sang this song today, and it made me think of you.

"The future veiled before us lies,
The path is hidden from our eyes,
And Jesus leads, while faith He tries,
Just one step at a time.

The road He takes, we need not know,
But follow in the steps that glow,
And trust in Him as on we go -
Just one step at a time.

We need not fear what lies ahead,
Nor anxious be nor filled with dread,
The saints before were safely lead,
Just one step at a time.

Just one step at a time,
Just one step at a time,
That's the way He leads to glory,
Just one step at a time.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Isaiah 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

    love, Twila

  6. We are praying for you. Thank you so much for keeping us updated. Kim, you are doing a great job on the blog page and we appreciate it. A verse I came across this morning was in Gen. 18:14 "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" We serve a Great and Mighty God. We are passing your requests on for others to be praying as well. Love in Christ, Dan & Beth
